Sir As an humble member of the Republican party finding an interest in the perfect success of your administration, I take the liberty to suggest that Gov. Banks of Massachusetts, in the opinion of many republicans, and others in this state possesses superior qualifications for a member of your cabinet. Gov. Banks visited this state in 1859 to address our State Agricultural Society at Detroit, he was called upon at the residence of Senator Chandler by a large number of the people from all sections of the state he called at this place on his return to see our University, and addressed the students. The people of this county also called upon him here, and he left an impression upon the minds of all who saw him that he was a man for the times ---- He has a national reputation has been tried and found to be firm and true and in my humble opinion possesses in a remarkable [ ] those qualities with which it is desired by all true friends of the country that the Execution should be surrounded in the present juncture.
