Before a General Court Martial, convened at Head-Quarters, 2d Brigade, 1st Division, 1st Corps, in pursuance of Special Orders, No. 169, of December 12, 1863, Head-Quarters, 1st Division, 1st Corps, and of which Colonel J. W. Hofman, is President, was arraigned and tried--- First Lieutenant Isaac N. Whitemyer, Company "E" 19th Indiana Volunteers, on the following charges: Charge 1st-Misbehavior before the enemy. Charge 2d-Absence without leave. Finding-Of the 1st charge-Guilty Of the 2d charge-Guilty And the Court does therefore sentence him, the said First Lieutenant Isaac N. Whitemyer, Company "E", 19th Indiana Volunteers, "To be dismissed the service of the United States." II. Before a General Court Martial, convened at Head-Quarters, 1st Division, 2d. Corps, in pursuance of Special Orders, No. 913, of November 20th, 1863, from Head-Quarters, 1st Division, 2d Corps, and of which Colonel H. Boyd McKeen, 81st Pennsylvania Volunteers, is President were arraigned and tried-- 1st. First Lieutenant Albert Reinert, Company "I", 52d New York Volunteers, on the following Charge-Conduct to the prejudice of good order and military discipline. Finding-Guilty And the Court does therefore sentence him, the said First Lieutenant Albert Reinert, Company "I", 52d New York Volunteers, "To be dismissed the service of the United States, with the loss of all pay and allowances now due him and that may become due him." 2d. Second Lieutenant Thomas A. Dorwart, Company "B", 119th Pennsylvania Volunteers, on the following charges, viz: Charge 1st-Cowdardice in face of the enemy. Charge 2d-Absence without leave. Finding-Of the 1st charge-Guilty. Of the 2d charge-Guilty. And the Court does therefore sentence him, the said Second Lieutenant Thomas A. Dorwart, Company "B", 116th Pennsylvania Volunteers, as follows: "To forfeit all pay and allowances now due him and to be dishonorably discharged the service of the United States; the crime, finding of the Court, and sentence, to be published in the Philadelphia Enquirer and Public Ledger, of Philadelphia, Pa." III. Before a General Court Martial, convened at Head-Quarters, 2d Brigade, 2d Division, 2d Corps, in pursuance of General Orders, No. 193, [*29260*] of December 6th, 1863, from Head-Quarters, 2d Division, 2d Corps, and of which Major John H. Stover, 106th Pennsylvania Volunteers, is President, was arraigned and tried-- Private John Wilson, Company "D", 71st Pennsylvania Volunteers, on the following Charge-Desertion. Finding-Guilty. And the Court does therefore sentence him, the said Private John Wilson, Company "D", 71st Pennsylvania Volunteers, "To be shot to death with musketry, at such time and place as the Major General commanding the Army may designate;" two-thirds of the members of the Court concurring in such sentence. IV. Before a General Court Martial, convened at Head-Quarters, 2d Division, 3rd Corps, in pursuance of General Orders, No. 70, of September 28, 1863, Head-Quarters, 2d Division, 3rd Corps, and of which Colonel Wm. J. Sewall, 5th New Jersey Volunteers, is President, were arraigned and tried- 1st. First Lieutenant Edward F. Conway, Company "G" 71st New York Volunteers, on the following Charge-Disobedience of orders. Finding-Guilty. And the Court does therefore sentence him, the said First Lieutenant Edward F. Conway, Company "G", 71st New York Volunteers, "To be dismissed the service of the United States." 2d. First Lieutenant Charles Slavin, Company "E", 71st New York Volunteers, on the following Charge-Disobedience of orders. Finding-Guilty. And the Court does therefore sentence him, the said First Lieutenant Charles Slavin, Company "E", 71st New York Volunteers, "To be dismissed the service of the United States." 3d. And the Court does therefore sentence the said Private James Lane, Company "B", 71st New York Volunteers, "To be shot to death with musketry, at such time and place as the General Commanding the Army in the field may appoint;" two-thirds of the members of the Court concurring therein. 4th. Clifton, Company "F", 6th New Jersey Volunteers, "To be shot to death with musketry, at such time and place as the General Commanding the Army in the field may appoint;" two-thirds of the members of the Court concurring therein. 5th. And the Court does therefore sentence him, the said Private Ira Smith, Company "I", 11th New Jersey Volunteers, "To be shot to death with musketry, at such time and place as the General Commanding the Army in the field may appoint;" two-thirds of the members of the Court concurring therein. V. Before a General Court Martial, convened at Head-Quarters, 2d Division, 3d Corps, in pursuance of General Orders, No. 82, from those Head-Quarters, of December 17th, 1863, and of which Colonel William J. Sewall, 5th New Jersey Volunteers, is President, was arraigned and tried- Second Lieutenant John B. Hare, Company "G", 72d New York Volunteers, on the following charges: Charge 1st-Disobedience of orders. Charge 2d-Disrespect and contempt to his superior officer. Finding-Of the 1st charge-Guilty. Of the 2d charge-Guilty. And the Court does therefore sentence the said Second Lieutenant John B. Hare, Company "G", 72d New York Volunteers, "To be dismissed the service of the United States." VI. Before a General Court Martial, convened at Head-Quarters, Birney's Division, 3d Corps, in pursuance of Special Orders, No. 226, from those Head Quarters, of November 3, 1863, and of which Colonel Chas. H. T. Collis, 114th Pennsylvania Volunteers, is President, was arraigned and tried- First Lieutenant Thomas McNamee, Company "A", 40th New York Volunteers, on the following charges: Charge 1st-Drunkenness. Charge 2d-Conduct prejudicial to good order and military discipline. Charge 3d-Conduct unbecoming an officer and a gentleman. Finding-Of the 1st charge-Not Guilty. Of the 2d charge-Guilty. Of the 3d charge-Guilty. And the Court does therefore sentence him, the said First Lieutenant Thomas McNamee, Company "A", 40th New York Volunteers, "To be dismissed the service." VII. Before a General Court Martial, convened at Head-Quarters, 1st [*29261*] Division, 5th Corps, in pursuance of General Orders, No. 47, from those Head-Quarters, of December 16th, 1863, and of which Lieutenant Colonel W. A. Troop, 1st Michigan Volunteers, is President, was arraigned and tried- Private Allen G. Maxson, Company "D", 1st Michigan Volunteers, on the following Charge-Desertion. Finding- Guilty. And the Court does therefore sentence the said Private Allen G. Maxson, Company "D" 1st Michigan Infantry, "To be shot to death with Musketry, at such time and place as the Commanding General may order and direct;" two-thirds of the Court concurring therein. VIII. The proceedings of the General Courts Martial in the foregoing cases have been approved by the proper authorities, and transmitted to the Major General Commanding, the following are the orders thereon. The proceedings, findings and sentences in the cases of First Lieutenant Isaac N. Whitemyer, Company "E", 19th Indiana Volunteers; Second Lieutenant Thomas A. Dorwart, Company "B", 116th Pennsylvania Volunteers; First Lieutenant Edward F. Conway, Company "G" 71st New York Volunteers; First Lieutenant Charles Slavin, Company "E", 71st New York Volunteers; Second Lieutenant John B. Hare, Company "G", 72d New York Volunteers, First Lieutenant Thomas McNamee, Company "A", 40th New York Volunteers, and First Lieutenant Albert Reinert, Company "I", 52d New York Volunteers, are approved. These officers accordingly cease to belong to the military service of United States from this date. In the cases of Private John Wilson, Company"D", 71st Pennsylvania Volunteers; Private James Lane, Company "B", 71st New York Volunteers; Private Joseph W. Clifton, Company "F", 6th New Jersey Volunteers; Private Ira Smith, Company "I", 11th New Jersey Volunteers; and Private Allen G. Maxson, Company "D", 1st Michigan Infantry, the proceedings, findings and sentences are approved. The sentences will be carried into effect in presence of so much of the Divisions to which the prisoners severally belong as the Division Commander can properly assemble, on Friday, the 29th instant, at such hour after 12, m., as the Division Commander may designate.
