At the Riggs - Washington - D.C - This closes my allotted three score & ten years - and starts me on the last decade of my fourth score. Many friends came in time for the Banquet gotten up by Mrs Ivy Knight Jewall & dear Rachel Foster Avery - the one sorrow was that the latter couldn't be here - FEBRUARY, SUNDAY 16. 1890 The Washington The Boston Party arrived this A.M. - and all day the delegates & friends kept arriving - Sunday evening our National's held a meeting to talk of who should be President - neither Mrs Stanton nor Miss Anthony were allowed in - FEBRUARY, MONDAY 17. 1890. In Washington - When 10 Oclock came the Nationals packed the Private dining room to suffocation - & the Americans looked lost in the great parlor - - so I proposed to the A's to exchange with the N's - which they did very cheerfully - Mrs Gage was present - & I made her understand - in my speech on Mrs Stanton for Pres - that all of her mean efforts to persuade any members that I favored union - from ambition to supersede Mrs Stanton - were fully known to me - & I appealed to all - as they would do me personal honor to vote solid for Mrs Stanton -- at their National American Union meeting in the afternoon. - I was filled with most Righteous indignation at her - FEBRUARY, TUESDAY 18. 1890. The National American Association met publicly for the first time - in the 22nd annual Washington Woman Suffrage Convention this A.M. - and Mrs Stanton as its President made the opening speech - her daughter Harriet came to the stage & said a few words - in look & manner she showed herself with her mother & her mother's life long friend & co-worker - - It was a proud moment for me - & for all of us - of the old National - and ought to be to all who truly love the cause fully - Wm. Dudly Tenlke followed with a very fine address - at 4 P.M. In Fort Scott - Thanksgiving Day - for the entire nation - Day beautiful - Merritt drove me in old buggy down 3 miles east - to a farmer's who had bought $215 machine paid $5 down - & to pay $20 in coal & balance in cash at $5. a payment - found the man wife & boy all picking off the stone - stripping they call it - to find the coal 6 or 8 feet below the surface Mary B. worked all the day - cooking a "hen" turkey - expected to be splendid, tender - but proved not so very - but still good - with potatoes - tomatoes & cranberries - & a slice of fruit cake with a [?] sauce made the Thanksgiving dinner - if only Lucy E. & then David L. had been present [?] whole family with Aunt Susan B. would have been complete NOVEMBER, FRIDAY 28. 1890.
