Not being in public life, I cannot suppose that my position is of much interest to the public; still I do not wish to be misunderstood. I had hoped, in common with many good Republicans to be able to cast my vote for some one of the many able men in the party, other than General Grant. I confess a feeling of disappointment at his renomination. Had an able, trusty, honest man been nominated at Cincinnati, in an honest manner, I should have supported him, but I have never contemplated casting my vote for Horace Greeley. "Of the two evils I must choose the least," and I cannot see how Greeley with his record and probable surroundings, would be any improvement on Grant, therefore I propose to stick to the Republican party until something better is offered, and I cannot take [?n] active interest in the presidential contest. I do propose to use my best efforts for the success of the State, Congressional, and local Republican tickets. Very truly, B.B. VASSALL. Worcester, Aug. 23, 1872.
