CLARA BARTON DIARIES AND JOURNALS Dec. 15-16, 1906 (Diary Note)of Christian Dessner and Mrs Bartha a member and regular attendant of the first C.S Church. It thus happened that I could go to church monday. My room so light - and warm that the night was like the day - I read my science & health - slept-well. Sunday Dec 16. Breakfast - Full day at 11 the Auto came up for Mrs L [George] Barber & I to go to church. Mrs Bartha ill, - a beautiful service. Met many friends, The Readers - Mrs Wickersham two real healers, friends of Mrs Eddy Miss Logan, niece of Mrs Logan who was with her - who told Mrs Logan of my being there and a phone came at once for me3/ Memoranda notes at Mrs Barbers to go to Mrs. Logan to dinner which I did. Miss Logan coming for me in the carriage. Met Mr. & Mrs. [?] - we dined, chatted, and I came home at 9 to Mrs. Barbers. I find my welcome so warm an cordial, and the peculiarity that I should again run into christian science It seems impossible for me to get among others - Miss Logan is also a member by attendant at church At the invitation of Miss Calking I went up stairs to see her invalid mother who has heart trouble, a sweet, enthusiastic lady of 76, whose strength seems to be lost I should have mentioned that after this call and before the dinner at Mrs. Logan at 6pm The Motor came up again and I went with Mrs. Le [?] B. to get her baby girl, who had been let with a friend while we went to church and to call on Mrs. Hinton. The phone gave the number of the Whitley on Sat - went there, feeling it to be wrong - found the accident was well understood - then drove to the Whitney Park now Whitney Ave. found Mrs. Hinton weak but better - her nephew over from Baltimore I am so full of regret that I should have [ ] to this [new] condition - I am full of sorrow from it, but can make no reparation that I know of Monday - Dec. 17. Daylight. I am [?] and go home this morning CB31 Sat Sat Dec 15 - 1906 - In the morning prepared for a visit on sunday with Mrs A L Barber of Belmont. At three the large Auto mobile with Mrs Barber, A. L. her daughter Mrs. Bertha Barber Mrs and a friend came for me - We drove first to [Canton Junc.] then to train - then to Arlington - heads through all the zig zag streets of the Mall and home at night - found the pretty daughter in law Mrs Katharine [ ] Barber, widow of the late son, an Austrian lady- the little Baby girl of 2 Miss [Colkins] the home keeper - her mother an invalid up stairs, & the servants. Supper - a pleasant evening - and a room fit for a princess - To my amused astonishment 2 [ ] then all friends
