BLACKWELL FAMILY ELIZABETH BLACKWELL GENERAL CORRESPONDENCE From Bryant M.,28/5/94 Woodbine Cottage High Wickham Hastings Dr Blackwell Madam. I am much surprised to find that you had engaged another person to do the work of Miss Marain's in my place I think I have been treated most shamefullyto do a mean action, I am only too sorry that -- I stayed when you asked me I hope and trust that you may get someone that will do as I have done, if it is only for poor Miss Marain sake, my Husband is greatly surprised the way I have been treated, but I after my doing the hard work all the winter in all weathers, and now the summer is here I am not wanted to do the light work, I am writing this to ask you to get someone to do the washing had I have known this before, I would have let you know before as I scornethank God that where I have been before I can go again. I think it very mean of Mary not to have said anything to me about the change but if she is guilty of one mean thing, I am not surprised. I am sorry if I have put you to any inconvenience. I am Madam Yours Obedly M Bryant
