BLACKWELL FAMILY ELIZABETH BLACKWELL From Mills, HerbertAnchorite's Well Rendal Westmorland. January 18. 1888 Dear Madam I have been [desired?] to invite you to join the London Committee of the House Colonization Society and trust that you may be willing to strengthen the Society by giving your consent. The first meeting of the Committee will be held onThursday afternoon Jany 26th, at three o’clock In a room on the ground-floor of Exeter Hall in the Strand. The business will include the reading of a report on the position and prospects of the Society: the election of officers, and the considerations of methods of carrying on our work in London. Yours very truly Herbert Mills [How. fce?] Dr Elizabeth Blackwell P.S. A special reason for our desire to add the names of ladies to the Committee - is that we hope to offer quite as much work to [unim- ?] [em?]ployed women as to unemployed men, – an attempt which has not been previously made I believe in connection with and "Relief Works" – altho the need for honest work in the case of women is generally greater than in the case of men.
