Blackwell being so far as I know, in the sound possession of my 7 senses & reason do hereby bequeath to my friends & relatives my sum total of worldly possessions as follows– My leasehold house & lot on Walnut Hills now paid for – estimated by me as worth about $1200.00 My share of profits of Wm. Atkins & Co's year's business ending August 1st 1847 being 1/5th of same as per agreement-less amounts paid to me as shown by the Books– estimated to net me about $4000.00 Blackwell & Denning's debt to me for money advanced two years ago $15000.00 & Int. on the same at 10%– say about $1750.00 Also deposited in the safe of the Commercial Bank in this City $500. in scrip of the Cincinnati of Whitewater Canal Co.– Also My horse Diamond which is worth about $75.– In all I think it will prove to be about $7000.00 after paying all my debts which are as follows– A note to Ellis Z. Also-a note to Blackwell & Denning for 350. $840.00 For as much as I may any day take a notion to visit the Spiritual world - in case I make any sudden exit from this material one I hereby appoint Sam. C. Blackwell my sole executor & request that when able to do so without inconveniencing himself he will invest the proceeds of his debt & other property– the leasehold & Whitewater scrip excepted, in some way to yield a safe income of from 6 to 10%– which income after paying the rent of leasehold, is to be paid to Mrs [*HBB's will-1847*]Hannah Blackwell my very respectable & respected Mother, with whom I have been on terms of strict intimacy from a very early period of my childhood - during the term of her natural life ––and she is also to possess the use of said leasehold as trustee for the family–– And after her decease the leasehold is bequeathed together with all other property mentioned in this will, to Anna Marian, Elizabeth, Emily & Ellen Blackwell or such of them as survive – as follows – so long as any three of them prefer to retain the leasehold, it shall not be sold for the benefit of any others of them, nor be liable for the debt of such – but shall be for a home, which any one or all of them shall be entitled to inhabit at pleasure – but if three or more of them prefer – they may sell it and divide the proceeds equally amongst them – the other property – after paying to Howard & Washington my two brothers $150 each for their arrival at the age of 21 years – may be kept at interest as before Mother's death & the income equally divided between the five sisters or at the desire of three of them or more the money for the whole may be realized and after setting aside the amount for the boys, above spoken of, the balance may be equally divided between the five sisters or their survivors– And to attend to these arrangements being properly carried out I appoint Sam L. Blackwell as administrator & guardian or in event of his decease Elizabeth Blackwell or in event of her decease, Emily Blackwell to take the place – Henry B Blackwell [*H.B.
