My dear Miss Blackwell:

You will probably have to be in bed only a very
short part of your stay at the hospital. The preliminary operation
to make the opening in the eye larger, will probably be
performed on both eyes. I do not believe a mild cold will be
any contraindication in the operation and at any rate, it will
probably be a great deal better when the time for the operation
comes.

If your cold is not better by then, please let me know
a day or so before the operation and we can decide then whether
or not to postpone it, but I feel very sure that this will not be
necessary.
