BLACKWELL FAMILY. KITTY BARRY. GREGORY, JANE120 Marda vale South Lodge March 12th Dear Miss Barry, how very kind of you to write to me with all changes there has been since last I saw you I have lost one of the dearest of fathers and now my poor dear mistress how I miss her She has suffered a great deal, I nursed her a month in October day and night I was withpoor Mr. Sweet feels it keenly we are going on as usual. I am housekeeper at the present. I have been most of the winter as poor Mrs. Sweet was at Brighton - twelve weeks altogether. I will tell you more about her when I see you which I am looking forward too. You ask me when I was going to marry. I have got permission to keep in service another six months but I should like another six months at the end of it. I really do think Mr. Lakeman is blessed with a great deal of patience. I promised I would have him last Christmas then Mrs. Sweet was so ill that I assured him it was a thing impossible, don't you see Miss while I remain unmarried I can assist my poor Mother which I don't suppose I shall be rich enough after, she is so altered they tell me, My brother is married he did not come to fetchhis bride she went to him I received a nice letter from [him] her saying how much she loved her husband & how happ[e]y they were etc. and concluded by saying if I was half as good as my brother no doubt I had many to love me & my friend Jane is still in London I am pleased to say, she has been in her situation 15 months she talks of leaving with my duty to Dr and Miss Marian I remain Yours obediently Jane Gregory
