BLACKWELL FAMILY KITTY BARRY ROBINSON, LILLIAN A.Robinson Villa Daumas, Town Hill, Maritzburg July 2 - 10 My dear Miss Barry I must write by this mail to tell you how very heartily I sympathise with you in your great loss. Dr. Blackwell in my mind ranks with Florence Nightingale in her life's work. I always felt jealous for her that others who look up her work later made themselvesmore prominent in the public eye. She was our Pioneer and but for her the movement might never have been started. Do write some and tell me what your plans are. I do hope there will be some public memorial to Dr. Blackwell at the Medical School or the Women's Hospital. Let me know if any fund is started. I am always proud to think I was one of Dr. Blackwell's many medical god-daughters. With my warmest sympathy & in much affection. I remain yours very sincerely, Lillian Austin Robinson. [Villa Daumas, Town Hill, Maritzburg.] 381 Shuefrane[?] Road Leinbau [?] Natal. Oct 2. 10 My dear Miss Barry Thank you sincerely for your most delightful letter and the photos. Do let me have a copy of the one taken by Elliot & Fry if you will be so good. You know I am Dr. Blackwell's Medical god-daughter and since I was seventeen the impress -mest greetings Lillian Austin Robinsonof her personally has been over my whole life. I don't suppose for one moment I should have chosen medicine as a profession, or in fact any profession at all, if I had not met my heroine at the most impressionable age. If I am ever able to write a book I shall try to embody some of Dr. Blackwell's wonderful life in it. If you will let me have an address I will send you a copy of a recent photograph of Forbes taken with me. I have only had the proofs so far. I should like to contribute to the window very much. Please let me know when the subscription list is open. Don't go away from England till these things are settled if you can help it. People so soon forget. I have just moved down to [Semban?] and hope to make it my home instead of Maritzburg. My brother has an office here and will makeit his head-quarters if I am here. I have taken a most delightful house, on the very top of the ridge called the Berea. We can see the open sea and also the anchorage and Bay. There is a lovely garden and a wide verandah which gets the full sea breeze. The four children have come with us. The eldest is Forbes, six in June! He has quite made up his mind to be a doctor and knows quite a lot about "bones" already. Do write to me again soon and send the photo you so kindly offer & your new address Yours with war[mest]
