Blackwell Family Lucy Stone 1859 Blackwell, Henry B.LS to HBB Jan 1, 1859 No. 42 Tremont House It is the first day of the new year. And I have just finished sending its greeting to my mother, and now most cheerfully extend the same to you [Hary], and if earnest wishes for happy years would secure them to you, they surely would not be wanting. I only wish you were near enough to hear them by my voice rather than read them from my pen. Indeed Harry dear if I did not know that your return here be= =fore I leave, is impossible, I [would] beg you to come, if only for one hour. I have a most irrepressable desire to speak freely with you, [of] the questions which interest us so much. But it may be better, as it is, so let it go. I had a largermeeting last night than I have had before. Thirty subscribed for the Una - And great enthusiasm was manifest. Your Ex. Gov. [Bebb?]came, and asked to be introduced. Mr. Collins, a lawyer brought his wife, and asked me to share the hospitality of his house. - He called again this morning, and said he would give me a room, [fire?], bed, all by myself, and better than I have here.. But I declined, for I am freer at a hotel, though I believe I shall make them give me a better room. I shall leave here Friday morning, Lecture Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings, the last on Marriage. But pardon me Harry for writing again, so soon. I have nothing to communicate, but I wanted to write, and so I have. Yours affectionately Lucy
