BLACKWELL FAMILY Howard Blackwell General Correspondence Rogers, Reynoldx[*Former comptroller, Howard's predecessor in office. Reynold says he is a great loss, as he has been a very good advisor to Howard*] 50 State Street July 19, 1909. Dear Reynold, I am sorry to have to tell you of Mr. Danforth's x death. It occurred yesterday at the Parker House, after a week's illness. I saw him Saturday morning, when he was dressed and seemed much himself. It is too bad that he should not have had the years of pleasure on his farm to which he must have looked forward. The services will be held in Appleton Chapel on Wednesday at 2.30. I have just been up to see Mrs.Danforth, but there is nothing further to be done. Miss Kirby is now away for her vacation. In her place is a Miss Porter in addition to Miss Pettengell. Marguerite and Mrs. Thomas have to spend the next two weeks in Cleveland, and Marguerite has started this afternoon. Mrs Thomas does not go till Wednesday. Helen feels about the same. We expect to be in Cambridge about the first of August. I hope you are having a good time and getting the good of your vacation. You can use your own judgment about the day of return. I want you to have as much time as possible. At the same time I feel as anxious as you that your balance be a record this year. Mamma writes cheerfully from Gardner. She will be back at the Vineyard in another week, or less. With remembrance to all Affectionately Howard.
