Catt, Carrie Chapman General Correspondence Adams, Lida S. [nothing to transcribe] September 23, 1914. Miss Lida Stokes Adams, 1921 Green Street, Philadelphia, Pa. My dear Miss Adams:- Rosika Schwimmer is really here. We went down to Washington to present a petition from the International Alliance and she is now in Ohio helping the campaign there. There is a large colony of Hungarians in Cleveland. How many there may be in Pennsylvania I do not know , but here are three classes to which she ought especially to appeal. First, the Gungarians; second, the Germans, for she speaks German as well as Hungarian and, third, to educated classes of Jews. She is not an orthodox Jewess. I do not know the difference between unorthodox and orthodox, but I believe there are as many kinds as there are orthodox and unorthodox Christians; so I do not know how unorthodox she is, but I imagine she would appeal especially to the classes in the ethical societies and to German Jews. I hope that Pennsylvania will arrange for her to speak there some time. I think we may keep her occupied up to November 6th, but I want her to have plenty to do for she needs to make money. She has none. She is working in Ohio at $50. per week and expenses. What her permanent price may be I do not know. If you want her in Pennsylvania let us know. Cordially yours, CCC.R.
