receipt of the prize that is annually awarded to the woman who has made the 
most distinguished contribution to cultural or to social progress in the 
United States. 

In so doing, we would pay our tribute to your heroic leadership
in the battle for equal suffrage, to your discreet guidance in the use of the 
right of suffrage after it was won, and to your well-considered direction over 
the work of American women for the promotion of peace.
