[He was born and raised at] His folk live at Northford near New Haven. [Though?] not more than 21 or thereabouts He has knocked around the world [a little] considerable by sea and land — [had] has seen [a little] some fighting.—[altogether is a young man that any one would like.] I have asked him [once several times] one time and another what I could do for him — if he did not want a little money &c? No, he answered. He [had a] had all he needed.—has money.—Once, when he got very low, he [thought] said if I could get him a small home- made rice pudding, he thought he could eat it. A noble gentle Washington lady (Mrs. O'C.) hearing this made the rice pudding and I took it up to him. He told me afterward he lived upon it for three or four days. He is a good [true] [simply?] American young man. I gave him a [?] as a keepsake. One gets a personal attachment to [some of these] such young fellows.
