A.MS. (1p. 23 1/2 x 15 cm.) Photograph of Lincoln was detached from some book by Walt Whitman. It is one of the pictures taken by Brady. Pinned to it, a blue envelope with the following note in Whitman's writing: "Lincoln's Picture. Keep carefully (written in red ink) one of the latest taken before he was shot—the most satisfactory picture of A. L. I have ever seen (and I have seen hundreds of different ones)—looks just like I saw him last on the balcony of the National Hotel."
