Photograph of Lincoln was detached from some book by Walt Whitman. It 
is one of the pictures taken by Brady. Pinned to it, a blue envelope with the 
following note in Whitman's writing: "Lincoln's Picture. Keep carefully 
(written in red ink) one of the latest taken before he was shot—the most 
satisfactory picture of A. L. I have ever seen (and I have seen hundreds of 
different ones)—looks just like I saw him last on the balcony of the National 
Hotel." This picture is mentioned in November Boughs, 1888, p. 97-98; in 
Barton, W. E. Abraham Lincoln and Walt Whitman, Indianapolis, Bobbs-Merrill,
