On all sides + [summer now] the summer of 1877 is now at 
high tide holding on for two or three 
weeks yet [now when] (the days are already

weeds [tall] stalks of the [mull??] ("the American
The [delicate w] velvet plant" with
their yellow flowers blossoms, are mostly withered
and dead but there is a profusion
of [white] pretty blossoms of the wild 
carrot with their milk white 
heads.]Then when he goes &
so imperial so ardently lovingly hot - by night [on] the 
great planets & presents of Mars, never before 
so flaming bright & so large, so flashing yellow & so large. 
(the astronomers say  - is it true? Nearer 
to us than any time the past century.)
and [well] well [un] the clear Jupiter, (a little 
while since close by the moon) 
and in the west us, the sun sinks, 
[the] great planets first Venus, but languid & shorn 
of [here] her beams, as if from some divine [?excess] - then
