Kansas - This issue is largely devoted to statistics relating to Kansas compiled from the reports of the Kansas State Board of Agriculture. In 1878 Kansas ranks as the First Wheat State in the Union, producing 21,315,361 bushels, and ranks as the Fourth Corn State, producing 89,324,971 bushels, with an equally grand showing in all other departments of agriculture, while only one-eighth of the State is under cultivation. And of this enormous yield 45 per cent, nearly one-half of all the wheat, and 31 per cent, nearly one-third, of all the corn raised in the State, was grown on "Golden Belt" lands traversed by the Kansas Pacific Railway, which averaged 24 bushels of wheat to the acre, while the average for the State was 17 bushels. The remarkable fertility and productiveness of the "Golden Belt" Limestone section, its salubrious climate, fine cities and towns, its unequalled cash market advantages at the East and in Colorado, and its enormous wheat and corn crops, have made it the favorite location for intelligent settlers. In proof of which, in 1878 more than 40 per cent of all the settlers in Kansas located along the Kansas Pacific "Golden Belt" Lands, on which occurs 43 per cent of the increased acreage of wheat in the State. All persons intending to remove West should carefully read the facts contained herein, and preserve this valuable map. Leadville! and Ten-Mile. Kansas to the Front! The Leading Wheat State in the Union in 1878, and the Fourth Corn State - The Great Kansas Harvest of 1878 was Solid for The "Golden Belt," the celebrated Grain Belt of country in the limestone region of Central Kansas traversed by the Kansas Pacific Railway, is shown from the report of the Kansas State Board of Agriculture for 1878, from which the following statements are compiled: [Wheat Wheat Wheat] Kansas, the first wheat State in the Union in 1878, produced 26,518,958 bushels , of winter wheat, and 5,796,403 bushels spring wheat, total, 32,315,361 bushels wheat, with only one-eighth of the State under cultivation, of which the Golden Wheat Belt of the Kansas Pacific produced 14,000,000 bushels, or 45 per cent, nearly one half of the entire yield of wheat in the State, averaging 24 bushels per acre, while the average of the State was 7 bushels per acre. [Corn Corn Corn] Kansas, the fourth corn State in the Union in 1878, produced 89,324,971 bushels of corn, of which the Golden Grain Belt counties produced 27, 399,055 bushels, or 31 per cent, nearly one-third of the yield of the State, with an equally grand showing in all other branches of agriculture. The incrersed acreage of wheat in the State in 1878 over 1877 was 679,331 acres, and of this vast amount the counties along the Kansas Pacific Railway show an increase of 294,023 acres, or 43 per cent of the increase in the entire State. For the fiscal year ending June, 1878, 2,068,179 acres of Government land were pre-empted in Kansas. In Nebraska for the same period, 620,675 acres. These figures all show in what high estimation the Kansas pacific lands are held by settlers. The foregoing facts show conclusively why 29 per cent of the increase of population in the State during the past four years; and 40 per cent of the increase in population during the past year; and 43 per cent of the increased acreage of wheat in the State in 1878, occurs on the "Golden Belt," the celebrated belt of Grain Lands of the Kansas Pacific Railway. Lack of space prevents giving the details of the wheat, corn, oats and other productions for the entire State of Kansas, but below we give these productions in the organized counties lying in the Golden Grain Belt traversed by the Kansas Pacific Railway: Products In "Golden Belt" Counties in 1878. Winter Wheat, 11,097,835 bus.; Spring Wheat, 2,237,489 bus. Total Golden Belt Wheat in organized counties. . 13,335,324 bus. The above is exclusive of Trego, Graham, Gove, Sheridan, and other unorganized counties, and, including unreporting counties, there were fully 14,000,000 bushels produced on Golden Belt wheat lands in 1878. LOUIS PASSENGERS reaching St. Louis via the MISSOURI PACIFIC THROUGH LINE connect direct in the Great Union Depot with Nine Great Trunk Lines to all principal cities in the North, East and South. There is no change of cars between St. Louis and Chicago, Toledo, Cleveland, Buffalo, Albany, Boston, New York City, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington, Pittsburgh, Columbus, Cincinnati, Indianapolis, Louisville, Nashville, Mobile, New Orleans, Little Rock, Memphis and intermediate points. KANSAS CITY THE lines of road which run East and North from Eastern, Southern and Central Kansas and Colorado (including the lines from St. Joseph, Omaha and far-off San Francisco), all connect in the Kansas City Union Depot with the MISSOURI PACIFIC THROUGH LINE, the popular thoroughfare and best managed route to St. Louis and the East. Through Sleeping Cars & Day Coaches are run without change, from Omaha, St. Joseph, Atchison, Leavenworth and Kansas City to St. Louis Union Depot. The road, for the most part, has been newly laid with Steel Rails, and all of the appurtenances pertaining to the line are strictly first-class. GOOD EATING HOUSES ARE A SPECIALTY ATCHISON AT Leavenworth and Atchison the various lines centering at those points find their natural outlet over the MISSOURI PACIFIC THROUGH LINE, and the patrons of the line always find it to their interest to favor a route which furnishes the best of accommodations at the most moderate cost. Under the new management of the line, no effort is spared to render the MISSOURI PACIFIC the safest, best and most popular road in the West. The best evidence of its popularity is the fact that its proportion of travel is constantly increasing, notwithstanding the "hard times" which all roads in common are now passing through. DENVER DURING the pat few years that Colorado has been known to the business man, tourist and invalid as the healthiest and most remarkable State in the Union, the Missouri Pacific Railway Co. has spent large sums annually in advertising and awakening a lively interest about this rich and beautiful section of country, and its efforts have been richly rewarded by the people, who have made the MISSOURI PACIFIC THROUGH LINE the connecting link which binds the "Alleghanies" of the East to the far-off "Rockies" of the West. New Mexico and Arizona are cordially invited to "join the procession."
