MARTHA G. RIPLEY. MR. J. M. UNDERWOOD. Red Wing, Minn. Sept. 3. 1894 Ave "1" Mr. Henry B. Blackwell, 3 Park St. Boston, Mass. Dear Friend: One of the questions which is puzzling the suffragists of this State is: "What shall we ask of our next legislature?" Can you give us any light on the matter? Our Constitution is iron-clad, and the Michigan decision is a precedent against suffrage by legislative enactment. If we submit the question to the voters at present, our foreign majority will vote it down and we do not want to offer an ultimatum that would cut us off from 2. further work for years to come. What shall we petition for? Of course we want to keep up the fight and the legislature seems to be our best point of attack. Cordially yours, Julia B. Nelson. P.S. Our Convention which was to have been held Sept. 6.7.8 has been postponed. J. B. N. Sept. 3, 1894 Red Wing, Minne. Mr. H. B.
