NAWSA GEN. CORRESP. NEW YORK STATE SUFFRAGE ASSOCS. [*ANSWERED ? 21 1913*] July 27th 1913 Editor Women's Journal - Dear Madam, An interesting evidence of the wide-spread influence of the suffrage agitation has come to us in a letter from a small town in this state. The writer says that there has been no suffrage work or demonstration there until a short time ago when the children of the town got up a parade of their own. They prepared their [own] banners, inscriptions and costumes. Some of them were very unique, but effective. There was no burlesque element in the little parade, and it attracted so much attention and aroused the adults to do [?] a [?] of their own negligence, that they have written for instructions how to begin suffrage work. The little seed sprouted at once! Fortunately the town is in a district which has a most active leader and she has been informed of the state of things there, and will at once start organized work. This is the most novel of the many pleasant surprises in suffrage work. Yours very truly S.J. Russel Chairman [?] Comm. Briggs Agnes E Ryan- Dear Madam- Our list of members is very small, but I am glad to sent it to you. Anything I can do for the cause is gladly done. Nellie L. Erb[?] Silver Creek, N.Y. Mrs. Gilbert Scudder Huntington. N. Y. Dec 26 1913 My dear Miss Blackwell, I am sending you under another cover copies of our local newspaper which carry suffrage pages. We are particularly happy over the unqualified endorsement of New York where influence here is tremendous. We have already spent $35 mailing these papers to every enrolled voter in the district and are planning now to have 3000 more copies struck off to give away at meetings. We feel that it is the most effective price of work we have ever done. The Press is the great ally and all the gentlemen who have written the articles stand for the best things in our community. I am enclosing a programme of the Woman Suffrage Parade to be held on May 4th with the hope that you will want to take part in it. Such a demonstration necessarily impresses the public with the fact that all classes of women are uniting in an earnest demand for enfranchisement. Will you not sign the pledge to march and return as soon as possible to the Women's Political Union?
