NAWSA Gen. Corresp. Robbins, Charlotte M. 88 Exeter Street Boston, Massachusetts December 16, 1938 My dear Miss Blackwell: The Works Progress Administration has issued an order that mothers eligible for Mothers' Aid will be dropped from the WPA payroll on or before December 31, 1938. Mothers' Aid, State administered relief under the Department of Public Welfare, would give these mothers a monthly income which amounts to subsistence dole, i.e. much less than they are earning on WPA. Mothers with small children to support are classified by the WPA Social Service as "heads" of families. But this ruling deprives them of their right to support their families independently. Strong opposition to this ruling has been voiced not only by the mothers affected but by various organizations and individuals interested in preventing injustice. In order to discuss this ruling and plan a course of organized protest, a meeting is being held on Monday, December 19, at 88 Dexter Street (Room 35), Boston, at 3:00 P. M. May we look forward to hearing your voice in this question of vital importance to women? Sincerely yours, [*Mrs. Charlotte M. Robbins*] Mrs. Charlotte M.
