WILLIAM KENT, CAL. MRS. LAWRENCE LEWIS, JR., PA. HEADQUARTERS 1420 F STREET N.W., WASHINGTON, D.C. March 23, 1914 Dear Fellow Democrat: There will be a national suffrage procession in Washington on May 9th. This procession will be the culmination of the nation-wide demonstration of May 2nd on behalf of the federal suffrage amendment. The resolutions which will be passed at the various state demonstrations on May 2nd will be presented on the 9th to Congress, by suffragists who will bring them from the various states. If we can make this procession a large and impressive one it will undoubtedly greatly aid the chances for the passage of the suffrage amendment by Congress. The procession will be preceded by a mass meeting at the Belasco theater, and the marchers will proceed from that point to the East front of the Capitol. In addition to the state delegations, it is also planned to have other groups, representing various professions and affiliations. Among these, it is greatly desired that there shall be a strong representation of Democratic Women. Will you not sign the enclosed pledged blank for the procession, forwarding it to the Headquarters of the Congressional Union for Woman Suffrage, 1420 F St., N.W., Washington, D.C., and secure as many other Women Democrats to march as possible? We must make the section of Democratic women as large and significant as possible. Will you not also send some contribution toward the expense of our Section of the Procession? All contributions should be sent to Mary M. Lockwood, Treasurer, 1420-F Street, N.W., Washington, D.C. There is no special costume to be worn; marchers being simply asked to wear white. Hoping that we may have your co-operation, I am Very sincerely yours, Marie T. Armes, (Mrs. George A. Armes.) Committee on Democratic Women's Section.
