NAWSA Subject File Congressional Union Bounfield, Mrs. M.O. COPY Winnemucca, Humboldt County, Nevada, June 1, 1915. My dear Mrs. McCormick:- Your letter received. In answer will state the facts as near as I know them in our state. Our county being Democratic, the statement that the Congressional Union had issued a blacklist caused us money and worry. We had been sure of our county for the cause and were positive our men would give us the vote, but when the blacklist was sent out, we had to have literature sent all over the county denying that we were affiliated with the Congressional Union, and we also asked Dr. Anna Shaw to explain it to the people who heard her lecture, and we had other speakers for the cause do the same. Your first question can be answered by saying that as far as I have come in contact with the sentiment of the women votes of Nevada, they do not believe in the militant principal in America, and would not change their votes for that reason, if the candidate was a Democrat and a good man or woman. Your second question, -- the men of the west are too broad-minded to believe in any issue that we have to resort to blacklisting. Your last question I will answer by to send literature before the next campaign denying that the National Suffrage Party and the Congressional Union are the same. Sincerely yours, Mrs. M. O.
