NAWSA SUBJECT FILE Tilton, Elizabeth A. ELIZABETH HEWES TILTON - MRS. WILLIAM TILTON General Information Mrs. Elizabeth Tilton died the same day that Alice Stone Blackwell died, March 15, 1950. These two women had been loyal friends and co-workers in the Temerance and Suffrage Movements for more than 50 years together. In August 1950 Mr. Tilton asked Edna Stantial to look over the papers in their house at 11 Mason Street, Cambridge, to help determine their value to an archives collection. In the early autumn several trunks and file cases were sent to Mrs. Stantial's home in Melrose where the papers were sorted and more carefully examined. After consulting with other friends of the Tilton's, it was decided that the archives should go to her alma mater, Radcliffe College. They have been documented by the archivist, Miss Mary Howard and are now available in the Women's Archives in Byerly Hall.
