O'KEEFFE/STIEGLITZ LETTERS O'Keeffe, Georgia 1935, JAN. Box 1 Folder 3 Jan. 26, 1935 Saturday, Jan.26 - The other part of this was written a week or ten days ago - and with my usual way - having no address - it lay in my drawer - The enclosed letter from Geddes made me finally call Buchanan just now - I called Geddes office too to see what he wanted but he will not be in town till Monday - so I am sending this on to you. If I can find out what he wants the film for I will let you know - I will try early in the week. JAN. 1935 This morning your friend Crosby recognized me from the photographs and spoke to me on the street as we both left the 509 building. We spoke of you and agreed that you are alright. You gave me no address when you went to Mexico City - having none now - I feel a bit as if I am just writing into the air - but I will try to get one from your friend Buchanan - as you tell me to. My will to write or speak to any one is weak - when I have no address it is difficult to move myself at all. I wish you could have seen Stieglitz ' show - it is very beautiful - will be over Monday - it has a curious kind of coolness that is also warm - makes me feel a bit off the floor when I walk around and look at it. The idea of my own show - it comes next - gives me no pleasure - I have only a few new things and they are not important. Too bad you didn't finish the movie as you wanted to. I have been expecting Strand to turn up here and he doesn't - guess I'll have to write to him too I had a long letter from Marie from Gaspé - she is staying all winter at a place I spent a week at in August - I almost froze - - It is one of the most beautiful places I ever saw - but what a nerve for the winter ! - what a girl. I have been very busy getting my old work in order -- a lot of drudgery, I should have finished up each year -- I lived too long in a place not fitted for lots of the work that goes with painting -- This year I have a large room -- cement floor -- lots of room -- and nothing in it but the things I am working with -- no one else goes in it -- It has been very good for what I've had to do -- for painting it seems strangely cold and inhumane -- We will see-- I often wonder what you are finding -- Fondly, Georgia Transcribed and reviewed by contributors participating in the By The People project at crowd.loc.gov.
