O'KEEFFE/ STIEGLITZ LETTERS O'Keeffe, Georgia 1943, Aug.-Oct. Box 1 Folder 22 CiRCA Aug. 15, 1943 [*Late Aug/43*] Henwar - it was a fine letter I had from you some time ago. Ive been camping at the Black Place for five days during the full moon - camp on white hard sand behind a white fairly hand and much creased sand hill - a few thick cedars just out there - for shade - — miles of silvery sage - and running in two directions long lines of the black hills - It rained every day so was fairly cool - and I explored those black places more than ever befor - amazingly beautiful — I do not send this Air Mail because I write it at the mail box as I receive your letter and have no Air Mail Envelope for -- We only came out here once a day usually Such things one learns with Las Rationing my summer has been good I hope you can come -- Late Aug. 1943 [*Late Aug/43*] Henwar - : Two notes from you. I plan to go back late in October - about the end I think - I really think it would be a good idea to shake your self - shake your self well - and come out here for a couple of weeks - if you cant for longer - a month would be better - And maybe you can take a new hold - fresh start - Tell them your grandmother is very ill - or any thing - Coming home stuck in deep red mud of a wide arroyo - real muddy - the highway truck stuck too - cut bunches and bunches of flowering tall chamisa - and lay it in the red mud to get out - They wrenched us out Oh - it was a good trip - I always think of you in such places My love to you G Late Sept. 1943 Late Sept 43 Henwar!
