O'KEEFFE/STIEGLITZ LETTERS O'Keeffee, Georgia 1947 Box 2 Folder 5 Spring 1947 Henwar I do not write because I seem to have nothing to say. I am well in my body but I seem to have a hard time to settle myself into my world here after the winter and all its doings. There seems no end to it even yet - almost every day there are still letters to write about it tho I am away from it. I am glad you thought the show not bad G Aug. 1947 I have your letters and I must say its vagueness makes me laugh. The realities here have been so sharp and clear - It has rained more than in 14 years - I havent been able to get my car across the arroyo in days. The skys have been amazing — and startling The Abiquiu house has a roof - not quite finished. Still needs the last two rows of adobe - We have pumped - electric pump - all the water out of the Abiguiu well - yesterday it was dry - but maybe it will come Most of the first coat of plaster is on floors -- should go down very soon and maybe doors and windows. I am not putting in plumbing fixtures this year but all pipes are in - all wiring done. Yes, it is funny - a bit crazy --- but always for that reason good! Some very good rooms We have a 4 months old baby - it is fine Doris is here having her vacation -- and I think -- a very good time. I saw the San Juan threshing and thought it a pity you missed it - The [Sister?] dance is over- Sun flowers are blooming and the Chamisa has started - There is no tumble weed Gramma grass- you must do something with it has grown very fast this week - ? there are lots of things and it is wonderful but I haven't an idea of where or what you wish to start - All canvas I can buy commercially prepared is so poor I am making some - I don't know - but I imagine you had better plan to come up here - and go out from here for what you want to do for a while - - Let us not plan - I do not plan anything ahead except that sometimes ~ I hope after Xmas and Newyears ~ not befor ~ I'll be going back to the city for a couple of months to finish what I must do there ~ I am busy ~ very ~ and my life is good G. Write me when you are coming ~ or don't write I don't much care ~~ It is a little more convenient if I know ~~ but it doesn't make much differences ~ This year the meat is tough ~ even the veal ~ ! Sept. 1947 Ghost Ranch Abiquiu, New Mexico Telegraph: Espanola, N.M. Monday AM Greetings! I just have your letter and unless we hear from you to the contrary, 7 or 8 of you are expected on about the 9th. I look forward to you all very much You will live in the house I am in a mile away from the main house - I like it best - and I sure they will like being here - I like it. [Hastily?] Georgia I heard this A.M. that [Naeker?] is very ill - am going down to see - I have been thinking they might be up to see me almost any day Transcribed and reviewed by contributors participating in the By The People project at crowd.loc.gov.
