AT UNION STREET - 5 - Seen a lot of changes 'round here in the last thirty years . . . just a small town cemetery then and look at it now with all these statues and everything . . . sure is a pretty place all right. Why, a lot of people have told me that it's known all over the world. Sure must be a big comfort to people comin' here to leave a loved one to have everything so quiet and sacred and peaceful like. You know, it seems to me the finest thing that Forest Lawn has done for these people was to put the undertaking right inside here away from all the traffic and noise. Forest Lawn Memorial-Park Ass'n. Inc. Glendale, Claifornia THAT PICTURE ON THE COVER Clarence Ellsworth, noted artist of animal life, has brought to canvas the North American Grizzly bear. Tired from the chase, this powerful beast has eluded the hunting pack for the moment and has sought refuge high in the Rockies. There slumped near the edge of a chasm, tongue hanging and panting heavily, this lumbering animal of the western hills is still no easy prey for the marksman. The grizzly is not generally the surly ferocious beast he is commonly believed to be. Only in self-defense or in defense of his young does he attack man. Then his huge bulk, which often attains 1200 pounds, is usually the deciding factor. Ordinarily berries and squirrels form his main sustenance. During the winter months, these bears hibernate and it is in the spring as they emerge from their caves lean and hungry that they are most dangerous. In the shelter of his habitat, this bear is a natural subject of the wild game of the West. Ellsworth's painting is another of those done for the Rio Grande Oil Company in their endeavor to immortalize in oils the natural beauty of the Great West where they were born. CLASSICAL and POPULAR PIANO INSTRUCTION under ELLWOOD DAMERON of New York City —23— AUTO SHOW TO BE LARGEST IN COUNTRY With dates for the Twenty-fourth Los Angeles Auto Show announced for Nov. 14 to 22 at the Pan Pacific Auditorium, officials of the Los Angeles Motor Car Dealers Association disclosed last night that more than $2,000,000 worth of new 1937 model automobiles will be on display. George S. Pelton, president of the dealer group, has appointed Harold W. Tuttle chairman of the show committee. In addition to Pelton and Tuttle the committee includes Ralph Hamlin, Hamlin W. Nerney, Earl R. Carpenter, Irvin Kaiser and Gordon Warren. Burt Roberts, secretary of the association, who for many years has served as active manager of the show continues in that post. Plans are being completed for the largest and most colorful show in the long history of the event, Tuttle said. A temporary addition is being constructed on the auditorium which will increase the floor space to 150,000 square feet, making the exposition the largest auto show ever held in the country. In addition to a showing of the new models of all American motor car manufacturers and the truck and accessory exhibits, a diversified display of trailer coaches will be added this year. These traveling homes of which Los Angeles is rapidly becoming the manufacturing center, will be shown in a range of models from the modest little bedroom types costing but a few hundred dollars up to those resembling a modern small apartment and costing several thousands of dollars. Show officials are preparing for a record attendance of close to 200,000, Tuttle said, due to the keen interest in the numerous changes and improvements in the new automobiles and also because of the fact that a majority of the lines will make their initial bow to the public at the show. EXPERTLY We remove each spot Except the kind the leopard's got. Eradicating Them we've tried But finally given up and dyed. For more than thirty summers (and winters) the cleaning and dyeing of the raiment of discerning people has been entrusted to us. It has come to pass that the quality of our workmanship has become a standard of cleaning excellence. Some may possibly be as good ... but none is better.
