Indiana State Board of Agriculture,
COMMENCING
September 7th, and Continuing 30 Days,
Live Stock Show, the Week Commencing September 28th,
AT INDIANAPOLIS, IND.
The Indiana State Board of Agriculture,
Encouraged by the Grand Success of the State Fair and Exposition of 1873, have completed arrangements to hold the
Fair and Exposition for 1874,
with more extended facilities for the convenience and accommodation of exhibitors and visitors, and extend a cordial invitation to Agriculturists, Stock Breeders, Manufacturers, and Artists everywhere to co-operate with them in promoting the industrial interests of the country.
The
Fair Grounds
contain 36 acres laid out with walks, drives, and shade trees, and furnished with commodious halls, dining rooms, stalls, pens, a large amphitheatre, and the best Time Track in the State.
Elegant and Spacious Exposition Buildings
were erected last year at a cost of $150,000. They are 900 feet in length, the central portion, two stories of 20 feet each in hight, with verandah in front, and containing two galleries extending the entire length of the building, requiring in their construction 1,500,000 brick, 650,000 feet of lumber, 2,000 cubic yards of stone, and 190 kegs of nails, and affording more than 300,000 square feet of space arranged in the most modern style, and adapted to the display of every branch of Industry.
Power will be furnished free of charge for the exhibition of machinery in motion.
A superabundance of water is furnished on the grounds and in the buildings for the numerous fountains closets, grottos, and for general use.
Articles may be entered either in competition for the premiums offered or for
exhibition only
, at the option of the exhibitor.
The Grounds and Buildings are Beautifully Illuminated at Night
by gas light from 1,500 burners, and made attractive by music and other special entertainments. Visitors can reach the exposition by means of the street cars and hacks, at little cost.
The Rail Roads
centering at Indianapolis, and connecting lines (over which 85 regular passenger trains arrive and depart from the Union Depot daily.) will carry passengers and freight to and from the Exposition at reduced rates.
The Fair and Exposition
Is under the management of the State Board of Agriculture, created by Statute Law to promote and improve the condition of Agriculture and Mechanic and Household arts.
All communications and all boxes, packages and articles for the Exposition, should be directed to
Indiana State Fair and Exposition,
Indianapolis. A detailed statement of the contents of each box or package should be inclosed, and a duplicate sent by mail, accompanied with full instructions how to be entered, whether for exhibition or competition, and for what premiums. In case the owner or agent be not present at the opening of the Exposition, (unless otherwise directed,) the management will have the right to unpack, at the owner's risk, and place them on exhibition, and to repack and ship at the owner's risk and expense, at the close of the Exposition.
Open for the reception of articles, August 20th.
Animals for exhibition will be admitted to the grounds on and after September 7th.
The exhibition in the Live Stock Department, for the award of premiums, will take place on and after the 28th of September.
Trial of Farming Implements will commence September 23d, and continue until completed.
Premiums Increased $2,000 Over Last Year,
And amounting to TWENTY THOUSAND DOLLARS, payable in Cash, Gold and Silver Medals, and Diplomas of new and elegant design are offered in the several departments.
