I certainly am lonesome and blue today and maybe you won't wonder when I tell you why. Today our chief engineer called us up and told us he would give us a pree day furlough and I was broke as usual. We will be here at least a month and they could give us ten day leave just as well as five, but no they won't do it. They seem to try to make life just as miserable as possible and they sure do succeed too.
They are going to give two of us furloughs at the time and a little later when we get most of our work done up give three or for leave at once. There might be a chance of getting more time off a little later so am going to stick around and try for more. First I was broke and then I knew if I took it now I wouldn't get to see you or sister for I will only have about three days at home out of traveling. Pay day is the twentieth and I am goig to see if there is a chance of waiting until after then to take my leave and if there is I will just wait. You will be able t come by that time won't you? Well you must thats all and don't forget I am going to teach you a few things and show you that it is nice to be affectionate sometimes and if you don't let me or get mad I'll never speak to you again, but I know you ain't going to do that, and are going to be real nice aren't you? You can be if you will or care anything at all about me. I may have to take the five days before the 20th so stand by for a
telegram and if possible come and if you can't you can't but if you don't I will be sick with disappointment.
Well it seems that the submarines have come over to see us, eh? Well I hope they send them all over here for I would rather fight them here than on the other side and we will soon show them where they get off.
I dan't understand why we don't get any mail. You know I haven't had a letter since I left the states on March the 5th. Address my letter c/o Navy [?] Y.M.C.A. Norfolk, Va and I will get it sooner. Write at once just when you can come and all and put a special del. [delivery?] Stamp on it.
With words of love,
