Dear Ma Pa & Sue
Received a letter from you last night giving me the dickens in a nice way, for not writing more often. Well I surpose [sic] I have been rather slow in sending letters but to a great extent I am excusable. It is sometimes hard to get paper and at other times I am busy drilling from early in the morning until late in the afternoon, then supper and the billet. In our billet this is about twenty fellows and when they are all talking at once it is hard to write. Eight or nine o’clock sees us in bed for the night. For several weeks I have been under the weather but feel o.k. again so will tell you what was the matter
I must have got hurt without knowing it as my side bothered me considerable. I went on sick report but did not seem to get any better. This morning I went up to the hospital and told the Doc just how I felt. He had me report to him later and informed me that my rib must have had a small fracture. He gave me a good examination. It is nothing to bother about much, so will keep strapped up for awhile and resume drill. I have only missed two days while here. The work is very interesting and the boys enjoy it, but not as much as they did the old Troop A. drill. Have not been able to locate Frank yet but
might run into him before leaving. Desmond’s brother is in the next town to us. I have not seen him yet. Am waiting patiently for the bundles to arrive but maybe they will hold them all until Xmas. The only bundle I have received up to date is a box of fudge sent by [Adah] sometime ago. Never mind they will be all the better when the [sic] do come. Give my love to all the folks. Tell Reggie I received his letter and will write a little later. Will have to go now as dinner is about to be served.
Love. Edgar.
