My dear Edgar,
Here we are at Mrs Kimballs, its so quiet out here that it got on pa’s nerves yesterday, but it seems good to get away from the trains for a few weeks. My, but it did seem good to
get that note from you so quickly after the long hard engagement, that you were in. I have read and reread it, its so brief and yet to the point. You must have carried that paper and envelope with you thru it all. We sure did appreciate your sending it so
quickly as you must know how awfully anxious we get at times. It seems to me you fellows ought to be coming home on a furlong [sic] soon. Yesterday I went out with our friend Mr. Gavin?!*?!! He seems to want to redeem himself in my eyes, so he says. Of course he is Irish and he dislikes! the English
etc, ect, etc, I never could go into the details, but any way he thinks he has some argument don’t think I try to argue Ed, far be it from such. I first tell him he can’t talk that way to me. Well anyway we had a wonderful ride and had dinner at the Sterling Inn. Took some dandy pictures and will send you some if they
come out good. There is a garden just below here where Mrs. Kimball goes and picks flowers everyday for her windows so Ma and I are going down there as soon as the house it picked up a bit. Mrs. K has flowers or plants in most every window which makes her home very picturesque.
Well dear boy hope you are having a rest just now. Lots of love & kisses from your little sister Sue.
