Dear Sue, ~
Bet you are mad with your little brother for not writing for so long. The last few days have certainly been the best outside of Paris, that I had since coming to France. This is one of the few clean little towns of the whole country. This morning I got up about six thirty had a very good breakfast of oatmeal biscuits, and coffee. After eating, I took a walk down to the pond and watched the swans for a while, continued a bit to an inclosure [sic] which has several deer, then out into a wood road which is very
beautiful in its autumn foliage. Returning to the hotel (the hospital here is in hotels) I took a fine shower bath and felt like a new man. For dinner today we had beef a la mode known in army circles as slum pudding bread butter and tea. After dinner I enjoyed a another walk in the opposite direction. You know Sue, I always did love the country. This evening I am spending in the Red Cross rooms, which are the best I have seen over here. Before the war this town was one of
the health resorts of France and if I had a million dollars I could not ask for better, but be that as it may I will be tickled to get back to good old Boston and my best girl. Y.O.U. I often look at your pictures and wonder just when I will see you Ma. Pa and the rest of the bunch again. Oh Sue! how very thankful I am that it the day is near. I never can tell you all that I have seen in the last year and two months.
With love and lots of it.
