>> Magda Giannikou: Hi, my name is Magda. I'm band leader of Banda Magda. I'm from Greece. And today I thought I would talk a little bit about this fantastic instrument called the accordion. The accordion has German origin. It is said that the first accordions appeared in Germany in the early 19th century. But of course, then the accordion spread all over the world and we have it now represented in so many styles of music in Brazil, in Mexico, also in the States, in Cajun music, but also in Europe, in the Balkans. It's everywhere. How it works, it's sort of like a box and the air flows through the reeds and produces a sound through the bellow, which is this part of the accordion. There are different types of accordions. This one is called a piano accordion because it has a piano keyboard. On the right side, I can play melodies like this one. [Music] And this is a melody from a Brazilian Forró song by Luiz Gonzaga. And then on the on the left hand, I can play chords, bases, combination of chords. Hope you enjoy it and hope you learn to play how to play the accordion. [Laughter]
