>> Magda Giannikou: Hello again. Hope you're doing well. My name is Magda. This is Bob. >> Bob: Hello. >> Magda Giannikou: And we're going to talk about the creative process of writing a song. Now, something I like to do a lot is use my phone and use the voice-to-memos. Because inspiration. You don't know when it's going to come. So I always have it handy and I just press record and start singing. And--and later on, when I am more relaxed and I have some time, I go through the voice-to-memos and just the moment is captured and then I can go back to that moment, that genuine moment, and see how I can edit it or improve it, or work with my bandmates into creating it into a song. And, as an example, we're going to talk about a song called Tudo Isso. In Portuguese it means All This and it talks about all that I am, and the scenery is this beautiful island that I visit every year in Greece, in the Aegean Sea, and sort of like imagery of that island, of swimmers, of ocean life. And, the first voice of this song was -- it's called Tudo Isso ukulele ensacadas. And I remember it was a hot afternoon and I was with a little ukulele in my room with the sun shining. And I came up with this kind of riff. [Music] So you have this melody. Da da di da da da da da da. Over this riff. And then I got together with a lyricist that I work very often, Nina Nikolayevski. And we wrote lyrics to fit this sort of like vibe of the things that represent me from this island. And, then in the recording session, I brought this to Bob and said, Okay, Bob, let's let's work on this. And he came up with this arpeggio. [Music] And with Nina and Bob, we have this result of Tudo Isso, this song about the ocean and all that, I feel for it and all that I am in it. [Singing] Thanks for listening.
